A watershed is a geographic area, surrounded by the highest ridgelines, which drains into a river, river system, or body of water.

  • 109 square miles (69,900 acres), 2/3 in Los Angeles County and 1/3 in Ventura County

  • Contains 8 sub-watersheds: Hidden Valley, Westlake, Lindero Canyon, Palo Comado Canyon, Triunfo Canyon, Las Virgenes Canyon, Cold Creek Canyon, Malibu Canyon

  • Ranges in elevation from sea level to 2400´

  • Home to numerous threatened and endangered species including steelhead trout, tidewater goby, San Fernando Valley spineflower, California red-legged frog, snowy plover, brown pelican

  • Ecosystems include rock outcrops, southern oak and riparian woodlands, grassland, chaparral, coastal sage scrub, coastal strand, estuary marsh, and tide pools
