Most evenings, as the air cools and the light softens,
they come – by car, by truck, and on foot.
They are all shapes, sizes and colors, but they have
one common interest – to run free and play
together. They are lucky local canines coming to
the Bark Park adjacent to the water district headquarters
on Las Virgenes Road. Available to all local pups,
the park is on Las Virgenes Municipal Water District
property, leased for $1 per year to the City of Calabasas,
which developed the park and provides all upkeep.
Nearly an acre in size, the park’s open space
is secured by a 5-foot-tall chain-link entry gate
and fence system. There are water fountains for humans
and dogs, benches, trash cans, pooper-scoopers, bulletins
boards, and a portable toilet. Plenty of convenient
parking is available in the adjacent water district
auxiliary lot. At any given time, but especially
in the early evening, the park is alive with romping
canines, happily interacting with each other, while
their humans come to socialize or sit and relax with
a book. The Bark Park is part of LVMWD’s ongoing
commitment to community service. If you haven’t
seen it, stop by with your four-legged friend to
check it out.
