(April 20, 2005, Calabasas, CA. . .) As part of its annual Water Awareness Month" celebration, Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) will be presenting a selection of water-related books to local libraries and schools. "Water Awareness Month provides a chance to increase knowledge and awareness of water, a limited resource, and foster year-round water stewardship, " said Charles Caspary, president of the LVMWD Board of Directors. "Our water district is pleased to provide local residents with library resources that help explain the history and complexities of providing water and how to use it wisely."
This year's books, aimed at young adult and adult readers, include topics on local water history, water politics, and a gardening reference guide. Over the past eleven years, LVMWD has provided more than 600 books, magazines and videos about water to school and public libraries within its service area. A complete list is available at www.LVMWD.com, under the "Community Outreach" heading.
Other LVMWD activities scheduled for May include a Water Awareness Poster Contest, a water awareness booth at local community events, and Outdoor Education with Las Virgenes Unified School District fifth graders.
Las Virgenes Municipal Water District provides drinking water, recycled water, sewer service, and biosolids composting to more than 65,000 residents in the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and Westlake Village, as well as unincorporated areas of western Los Angeles County. |
