Water awareness permeates every element of our lives in California. In partnership with local schools, our District weaves inventive and interactive water studies into the yearly curriculum, with programs, books, materials and teacher training provided free. In addition, LVWMD sponsors other resources and programs for water and wastewater awareness.
Student Activities / Teacher Resources
Student activates and education curricula for elementary, middle school, and high school students now available from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
Library Resources - Books on Water and WastewaterWith water so critical in our region, it is important for everyone to know more about its history, its treatment, and its conservation. Library books and other educational materials grace the shelves of local school and community libraries thanks to annual donations by the District. Whatever the category, reading level, or special interest - from political history, to children's fantasy, to science experiments, to conservation projects and poetry - you'll find it, compliments of your water district.
Theater for the Classroom"From small people, come big changes." This is the water education theme of The National Theatre for Children! performances for local elementary school children, provided each year by the water district. Based on myths and fairy tales, these colorful shows deliver messages about conservation and environmental issues that young people can relate to and bring back to their classrooms and families.
The Art of Water Savings A district-wide grade-school poster contest forms the centerpiece of our Water Awareness Month celebration each May. Inventive, conservation-themed drawings compete for our crystal perpetual trophy and for a place in Metropolitan Water District's (the agency that provides our water) widely distributed student art calendar. Local winners are honored in their schools and the press, and their artwork goes on public display at our headquarters offices.
