Team Profile: LVMWD´s Public Outreach
Water isn´t the only thing we provide
at LVMWD!
Our Public Outreach team makes
sure that ideas and information keep flowing to and
from customers, stakeholders, school children, and
communities. Just one example is the newsletter you´re
reading right now!
With diverse information, lots going on, and multiple "audiences",
the small, three-person outreach team uses multiple
methods to get out the word.
Education is
one focus — both in schools and throughout the
community.
-
Play
the water awareness game and win a prize
at the Pumpkin Festival, Springfest, Love Run,
and other events. It´s fun to learn more about
water.
-
Student
artistic talent abounds in the annual water-awareness
poster contest. Over a thousand local students
compete each year.
-
Seeking
water information? Look for books in your
local library, provided by LVMWD each year.
There´s history, art, science, gardening, stories
and poems, all centered on water. More than
500 titles have been donated to date.
-
Students
in LVUSD´s Outdoor Education program focus
on wastewater processes during their visit
to LVMWD´s Rancho Las Virgenes Composting Facility.
-
Live
theatre performances brought to local schools
focus elementary students´ attention on the
importance of water and conservation. The skits
are zany, interactive and carried into adult
memories.
-
Free
group tours are informative and fascinating,
offering behind-the-scenes insights into how
local water is delivered and how wastewater
is treated and disposed. Tours are available
of the district´s
-
Las Virgenes Reservoir/Westlake
Filtration Plant
-
Tapia Water Reclamation
Facility, and
-
Rancho Las Virgenes
Composting Facility.

LVMWD´s publications
are informative and interesting. Ideas emerge
from customer inquiries, water and wastewater
issues, and news topics. Special efforts keep
the information interesting and timely.
The
Current Flow Newsletter, mailed with
each bi-monthly customer bill, tells about
the district, our challenges, our staff,
and our environment, and includes helpful
hints for conservation, gardening, and savings.
LVMWD´s
Annual Water Quality Report arrives in
your mailbox each spring and provides details
of water quality testing throughout the year.
Issues "in the news" are explained
and brought to a local level.
www.LVMWD.com is
your link to a wealth of information, with
constant additions and updates.
Research, writing, editing,
layout and design for all of these products are
done in-house, keeping the Public Outreach team
always at a busy pace. All this, while keeping
an eye and ear open to new questions, programs
and issues to communicate.
"Our team is small
in number, yet rich in scope and talent," commented
Jeff Reinhardt, LVMWD´s Customer and Public Affairs
Manager. "Through their abilities, people
of all ages are better informed about wise water
use and the sensitive environment in which we
live." |
