Multiple layers of security are in place to protect water served by Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, as well as the extensive system used to transport water supplies to customers. Many of these protections are a part of our ongoing water service; others have been implemented or intensified in light of recent events.

While it would be inadvisable to share details of our strengthened security, we want you to be assured that a systemwide approach is in effect, covering the source water in Northern California, the hundreds of miles of transmission system that carry our water south, treatment facilities and processes, and ongoing testing protocols. The three protective elements of prevention, detection, and emergency response are incorporated at each step.

Here is a sampling of the numerous safeguards currently in place:

  • Security and patrol of storage facilities throughout our water supply chain has been increased.

  • Locally, we have re-evaluated and re-secured each of LVMWD's storage and transmission facilities.

  • Air and ground surveillance has been stepped up along the California Aqueduct, including participation by the State Police and FBI.

  • Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the water wholesaler which provides imported water to our area, has strengthened its water treatment processes and increased testing by as much as 400% for some contaminants.

  • Locally, samples are collected throughout the LVMWD water system, to further test for water quality.

Water is critical to our lives. Las Virgenes Municipal Water District is committed to assuring water quality and reliability for our customers.
