Before water is delivered to you, it has been treated, filtered, disinfected and sampled frequently to be certain it meets both state and federal water quality requirements. Even before water begins its journey to Southern California, efforts are made to protect the quality of the water at its source in Northern California. These protective measures have many benefits, including fewer contaminants, more consistent water quality, greater safety and lower treatment costs.

The California Department of Health Services requires utilities, like ours, that deliver surface water to complete a Watershed Sanitary Survey every five years. These surveys look at potential sources of drinking water contamination and identify better ways to protect water quality at the source. Both Metropolitan and LVMWD have completed these surveys, as required.
