LVMWD Urges Customers to Prepare for Public Safety Power Shutoffs
With red-flag warnings expected later this week some of the LVMWD service area has been placed under consideration for a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). For a list of impacted areas please go to: https://www.sce.com/safety/wildfire/psps
From SCE.com “When there are potentially dangerous weather conditions in fire-prone areas, we may need to call a PSPS event. During these events, we will proactively turn off power in high fire risk areas to reduce the threat of wildfires. Turning off our customers’ power is not something we take lightly, but PSPS events are one of the ways we can better ensure the safety of the public, our customers, and our employees.”
LVMWD is proactive in our response to potential red-flag warnings preparing operationally by topping off our storage tanks and preparing our mobile generators for swift deployment by LVMWD staff if needed. Additionally, LVMWD encourages all of our customers to be prepared for the prospect of having no electricity for an extended period of time by reviewing the steps you can take to prepare before, and protect yourself during, an extended power outage at: https://www.ready.gov/power-outages
With the lessons learned from the Woolsey Fire and Camp Fire respectfully, extended outages in our region may become more frequent as we progress through the fire season and local power utilities seek to mitigate the risk of their infrastructure igniting a wildfire. LVMWD is prepared to meet these challenges and will continue to provide the highest level of service possible.
